The organic & fairly trade cotton for the canvas of the Veja sneaker is grown by a co-operative of smal farmers who have adopted agro-ecological methods. No chemicals or pesticides are used on crop and fair prices are paid to farmers
The fiber for the veja sneaker comes from the waste of Brazilian textile industries. The fiber is recycled to create a high quality canvas. PET (Using recycled plastic bottles to create a technological fabric) is added to the process to strengthen the final fabric.
Each Veja outer sole is made of 40% of rubber from the Amazon rainforest. Fair prices are paid to rubber tappers. The use of wild rubber from the Amazon increases the economic value of the forest and helps to fight against deforestation.
Veja only uses leather with low pack on the environment. The veja leather is tanned with low level of chemicals. The Veja leather is traced and does not come from areas of deforestation. Low level water is used in the tanning process.
The veja sneakers are made in factories located in the state of Rio Grande Do sul, a well-developed region in the South of Brasil. Upon arrival in Europe, the Veja sneakers are logistically managed by Ateliers Sans Frontières, an association working to reintegrate people facing social exclusion into work.
